Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Listeny ("Listeny", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use listney.com (the "Service"). Listeny works without accounts or sign-ups. This policy describes what stays on your device, what may be sent when you use optional features, and how analytics and advertising partners may use cookies.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Listeny does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or payment information to use the Service. We do not maintain user profiles or server-side libraries of the documents you open.

2. How Your Content Is Processed

In Standard mode, text and PDFs are processed entirely in your browser. Your files are not uploaded to Listeny servers.

If you choose AI Voice or download an MP3, only the text needed to synthesize audio is sent to our secure speech proxy on Cloudflare Workers. That text is forwarded to Microsoft’s speech service to generate audio. We do not store your raw text in a database or user account.

To speed up repeat requests, our proxy may temporarily cache generated MP3 audio for up to 30 days, keyed by a hash of the text, voice, and speed — not by your identity. The cache holds audio bytes only, not a readable copy of your text.

See How It Works for a step-by-step overview of Standard and AI Voice modes.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

To make Listeny more convenient, we store a small amount of information locally in your browser using localStorage. Voice, speed, theme, and reading progress are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device — not on our servers. It includes:

  • Your preferred voice, reading speed, volume, font size, and light/dark theme.
  • The text or PDF content you most recently opened, so you can pick up where you left off.
  • Your reading progress, so the page resumes from the right position when you return.
  • Your cookie consent choice (accept or reject non-essential cookies).

You can clear this information at any time by clearing your browser's site data for listney.com.

4. Cookies, Analytics, and Consent

We use cookies and similar technologies for site analytics and, where you consent, for advertising. Services we use may include Google Analytics (GA4), Microsoft Clarity, and Google AdSense. We implement Google Consent Mode so tags respect your choices.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland see a cookie banner before non-essential cookies are used. You can accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or change your mind later by clearing site data and revisiting the site. If you use Google AdSense on our site, you should also enable Google's Privacy & messaging (consent) settings in your AdSense account for users in those regions, as required by Google's EU User Consent Policy.

5. Advertising (Google AdSense)

Listeny may display advertisements served by third-party advertising companies, including Google AdSense. These companies may use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to Listeny and/or other sites on the Internet. You can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites .

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings . You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info/choices .

6. Automatically Collected Information

Our hosting provider and analytics or advertising services may automatically collect standard technical information, such as your browser type, device type, approximate location (derived from IP address), pages visited, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used in aggregate to understand how the Service is used and to keep it running reliably.

7. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites, including advertisements. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

8. Children's Privacy

Listeny is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address it.

9. Your Choices and Rights

Content and preferences stored in your browser are under your control. Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding cookies, analytics, and advertising as described above. For questions about data we process as a business, contact us via the Contact page.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
