Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Listeny's free reading tools, privacy, cookies, advertising, and how Standard versus AI Voice modes work. If you are applying for accessibility accommodations or evaluating Listeny for a classroom, start with the privacy and data-handling answers below.

Is Listeny free? +

Yes. Listeny is free to use with no sign-up or subscription. We may show ads to help cover hosting; the reading tools stay free.

Do I need an account? +

No. Open the home page or any tool page, paste text or upload a PDF, and press play. There is no login or email required.

Is there a text length limit? +

There is no daily cap or account limit. For AI Voice, each synthesis request handles up to about 1,200 characters. Standard mode uses smaller chunks suited to browser voices.

Is my text or PDF uploaded to your servers? +

In Standard mode, text and PDFs are processed entirely in your browser. AI Voice sends only synthesis text to generate audio — not your PDF file.

What is the difference between Standard and AI Voice? +

Standard uses voices built into your browser and keeps processing on your device. AI Voice uses Microsoft neural voices through our secure proxy and supports MP3 download.

Does Listeny use cookies? +

Listeny may use cookies for analytics (Google Analytics), session measurement (Microsoft Clarity, with consent), and advertising (Google AdSense). See our Privacy Policy for details.

Can I use Listeny for commercial projects? +

You may use the listening and transcription tools for personal or commercial listening workflows. Generated audio may be subject to third-party voice licensing when you use AI Voice — check Microsoft voice terms for redistribution. We do not claim ownership of text you paste or PDFs you upload.

Does Listeny work offline? +

You need an internet connection to load the site and, for AI Voice or cloud transcription, to reach our secure workers. Standard text-to-speech uses browser voices after the page loads, so brief offline playback may work if the page was already open.

How do I report a bug or request a feature? +

Email us through the Contact page with your browser, device, and the URL where the issue happened. Screenshots and short screen recordings help us reproduce UI bugs quickly.

How do I contact Listeny? +

Email the founder via the Contact page. We aim to reply within a few business days.
